Okay, we’re hooked on the ticket memorabilia that are up for auction on eBay. While watching the RSS feed for one of our searches, we saw the following listing end today for a ticket from the famous third game from the 1932 World Series in which Babe Ruth supposedly called where his hit was going to go.

The ticket ended up selling for US $1,435.00 after 28 bids. The description (we’ve edited the grammar): “An amazing baseball history find! An original ticket stub from the famous 1932 World Series Game 3, when Babe Ruth called the shot to make baseball history! This ticket stub is a Grandstand Seat at Wrigley Field, Chicago Illinois. Section Z Row E seat 10. The ticket stub is in excellent condition.”

Now the back story is that there is a major controversy over what Ruth was actually pointing at. The summary of the event from Wikipedia:

“Babe Ruth’s called shot was the home run hit by Babe Ruth in the fifth inning of Game 3 of the 1932 World Series, held on October 1, 1932 at Wrigley Field in Chicago. During the at-bat, Ruth made a pointing gesture, which existing film confirms, but the exact nature of his gesture is ambiguous. Although neither fully confirmed nor refuted, the story goes that Ruth pointed to the center field bleachers during the at-bat. It was supposedly a declaration that he would hit a home run to this part of the park. On the next pitch, Ruth hit a home run to center field.”

It’s an interesting story, but seems to indicate that Ruth played along with the hype, and in his words, “…it made a hell of a story, didn’t it?”

So who wouldn’t want to own a ticket from such a major piece of baseball lore? Maybe $1500 is a bargain…
