How to Avoid Pitfalls and Get the Most for You Money
NEW YORK–(BUSINESS WIRE)–For as long as there have been sports, fans have been collecting mementos of great moments, favorite players and celebrated teams. As these items have grown in age and value, more and more are collecting not only for nostalgic reasons, but for their investment potential as well, according to Marc Arnberg, co-founder of Sports Image International, a recently launched company specializing in three-dimensional sports lenticular images.
Yet when there is an opportunity for great value, there is also an opportunity for fraud, warns Arnberg. One of the leading memorabilia authenticators once claimed that only a third of the more the 10,000 Tiger Woods or Michael Jordan signatures they had been given were actually real.
“Collecting sports memorabilia is a multi-billion dollar industry that continues to grow each year,” said Arnberg. “Everyone wants a Hank Aaron ball or a Babe Ruth bat, but for some retailers, not actually having an item isn’t going to stop them from trying to sell one to you.”
