Upper Deck Withdraws Offer for Topps

“NEW YORK (AP) — The Upper Deck Co. on Tuesday withdrew its offer to buy rival baseball card maker The Topps Co., clearing one obstacle in the way of a proposed private equity takeover of the iconic sports memorabilia company.

Topps, maker of baseball cards and Bazooka bubble gum, has recommended shareholders approve a deal with investors including former Walt Disney Co. CEO Michael Eisner. Shareholders are scheduled to complete a vote on that deal next week.”
